This TV Set was produced in 1970s Yugoslavia by Iskra ("Spark") was an electronic equipment manufacturer in Yugoslavia, established in 1946 in Kranj, Slovenia. The company was home to one of the most well renowned designers of it's time, Davorin Savnik, who designed the famous Iskra ETA 11 Telephone, which received numerous international awards for exceptional design.
Iskra is still a successful company today is one of the great brands of Yugoslavia, producing high-quality, well-designed household items, which were almost unknown to the rest of the world until recently.
This is a classic Yugoslav nostalgia piece, with its great design and excellent quality. As noted by Prof. Jonathan Woodham, much of socialist design was written-out of 20th Century design, despite is absolutely relevant innovation and quality. As time has passed since 1989, more and more interest in this "hidden" design culture is emerging. The more you see and learn about it, the more you like and want it.
I don't own a television set myself, I never have, but I would give this sturdy piece of retro Eastern Block hardware a home just for the looks!
